Boys in the Civil War had a hard life. They did not fight until they were 18. The minors who were in the war were called drummer boys. Drummer boys had a set of drums and they rolled out signals. They were trained to roll a steady beat so the soldiers moved togethger. The drummer boys did not only keep the soldiers together but they had a special code. If they saw somone coming they would drum a signal to let everyone know someone was there. When the drummer boy turned 16 they were trained for the war. they went through courses and by the time they were done they turned 18. They started fighting in the war as soon as they turned 18, however if the child had a parents consent and wealth they could join the army with some military training.
